Most people who call us about animal waste are not the person who lives there. They are a daughter or a son who has not been inside in a while. They are a sibling who drew the short straw. They are a landlord who opened a unit after a tenant moved out. What they have in common is standing in a doorway thinking I have no idea where to even start with this.
Here is the honest answer: this is a solvable problem, it is more common than you think, and it does not require you to figure any of it out yourself.
It usually happens slowly. Someone gets sick, or gets overwhelmed, or ends up with more animals than they can manage, and by the time anyone else sees the inside of the house the flooring is already gone. That is not a character problem and it is not anyone's fault. It is a situation, and situations have solutions.
We are not going to react to the condition of the house. We have seen worse. We are not going to say anything to anyone. And if the person who lives there is still in the home, we will handle them with respect — no lectures, no comments, no making them feel worse than they already do.
What gets cleaned and what has to come out
The rule is saturation.
Surfaces that have not absorbed anything — sealed floors, tile, trim, walls that were only splashed — can be cleaned and treated in place. Once material has soaked into something porous, cleaning it does not work. The odor stays because the source is still there, under the surface.
When carpet, padding, or subfloor is saturated, it comes out. So does drywall where waste has wicked up into it. That is the only thing that actually stops the smell, and anyone who tells you they can deodorize their way out of a saturated subfloor is selling you a temporary result.

What it costs
Animal waste work is priced by how much has to be removed and how much flooring is affected. A single room is very different from a whole house. We give you a firm number after we walk the property, and the estimate is free.
We bring a 30-yard dumpster that is driveway safe, and labor and dump fees are included in the quote. No permit is required. We take a payment down up front and the balance when the work is finished.
You do not have to be there while we work. Plenty of the people who hire us live somewhere else and handle the whole thing by phone. We can send photos as we go so you know exactly what is happening in the house.
Odor
Odor removal is not a spray. It is removing what is causing it and then treating what is left behind.
How we treat it depends on what the odor is. Cigarette smoke behaves differently than animal waste, which behaves differently again than odor that has come up through a subfloor. There is no single product that handles all of them, so we match the treatment to the source after we have seen the property. Anyone who quotes you an odor solution over the phone without knowing which one they are dealing with is guessing.
If you are arranging this for a parent
This is the most common version of the call we get, so a few things worth knowing.
You do not need their permission to get a quote. We can come look, give you a number, and you can decide what to do with it.
If they are still living in the home and are not fully on board, tell us that before we come. How we approach the visit changes. We have done this many times and we know how to walk into that house without making it a confrontation.
If siblings are involved and not everyone agrees on what should happen, that is normal too. We will give you something concrete — a real price and a real timeline — which is usually what those conversations are missing.
If the property is a rental
We work with landlords and property managers regularly on move-out situations that turned out worse than expected. We can document the condition with photographs before we start if you need that for a deposit claim or an insurance file.
